Important Information
Our team
Class teacher: Miss Cormick
Full time HLTA: Mrs Wilkinson
Part time SEN support: Mrs Martin, Miss Batchford and Mrs Walker
House Keeping
Please regularly check school clothing for name tags, it would also be very helpful if the children could have a spare pair of underwear and socks in their book bag. Please also ensure that your child has a name water bottle, as a healthy school the bottle should only contain water (no squash or juice).
Routine
The school gates will be opened at 8.30 and the school day starts at 8.45, please ensure the children are ready to come into class at this time as there are 'early morning jobs' that they will need to complete, these are fine motor task for early years, handwriting and maths for year 1. Our school day ends at 3.15.
Days to remember...
Swimming days for year one only in the autumn term are on a Tuesday afternoon (a full swimming costume (not a bikini) or swim shorts (with the swim shorts lining for hygiene), a swimming cap and a towel.
My PPA (planning, preparation and assessment) time is on a Friday morning so the class will be taught by Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs Welch.
PE lessons will be on a Thursday afternoon (please bring PE kits in on the first few days of term, we will be changing into these for the PE session). Please note that children will not be able to do PE lessons with earrings in.
Outdoor learning is on a Wednesday afternoon and the children can come into school in some old home clothes (please dress appropriately for the weather- closed toe shoes, waterproof wellies etc). The clothes may get muddy so please choose old clothes. This will be every week throughout the year in all weather conditions. The children have access to the outside classroom everyday so if you would like to leave a named pair of wellies at school that's great.
Later in the term the children will begin cooking lessons.
Homework
The year one children will receive homework every Friday and will either be an English or Maths task and weekly spellings. This will be then due in the following Thursday. You can either send it into school or take a photo and put it on dojo. The early years children will occasionally bring home phonics homework.
Reading
Reading is a huge focus, especially in reception and year 1. The children will have daily phonics sessions that will equip them with the tools needed to read and write. Children are expected to read their school book regularly throughout the week, ideally four times a week (but more if you can!). We then give out dojo points each week for every read.
This will also contribute to our whole school reading rewards where the children can earn a bronze award for 50 reads , a silver award for 100 reads, a gold award for 200 reads and last year we have someone who earned a platinum award for 300 reads! We count one read per day at home. Children will also be able to earn extra Dojos by having a parents ask them a "VIPER" question and recording this in their reading diary. The year 1 children will be completing a phonics screening check later in the year which you will get more details about closer to the time.
Thank you - if there are any further questions, please feel free to Dojo me!
