Our Vision Statement
“Let your Light Shine”
(Matthew: 5:16)
As proud members of Canonium Learning Trust, we are united in our vision to inspire our pupils to 'let their light shine'.
Rooted in the powerful message of Matthew 5:16, "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven," at East Hanningfield CofE Primary Academy, we are dedicated to cultivating a school environment for our pupils where we foster a love of learning that sparks curiosity, ignites passions, and empowers each child to discover their unique gifts and talents, allowing their inner light to shine brightly.

Values
At the heart of Matthew 5:16 lies a call to action – to embody a light that illuminates the world through our actions. Our values of Compassion, Courage, and Respect, fuel this light by:
- Compassion: teaching our children to see the needs of those around them, responding with kindness and empathy, and demonstrating the love that shines as a beacon of hope.
- Courage: empowering our children to stand up for what is right, even in the face of adversity, allowing their light to pierce through darkness and inspire positive change.
- Respect: enabling our children to honour the inherent worth and dignity of every person, recognising the divine spark within each individual, and allowing their unique light to shine alongside their own.
When we live by these values, we are not just following a verse; we are living examples of its truth, allowing our light to shine brightly and inviting others to witness the goodness that comes from a life lived in faith.
Educational Approach
At East Hanningfield CofE Primary Academy, we are dedicated to nurturing an environment where our pupils are encouraged to "let their light shine" in every aspect of their lives. Grounded in the promise of Matthew 5:16, we believe our pupils possess the inherent potential to illuminate the world with their unique talents and goodness. As such, we are committed to equipping them with the knowledge, values, and mindset essential for thriving in an ever-changing world. Through a rich and engaging curriculum, we foster resilience, creativity, and critical thinking, ensuring that our pupils are well-prepared to face challenges and embrace opportunities, letting their light guide them.
This educational approach is brought to life through placing our greatest efforts on nurturing:
A Thriving Community with a Christian Ethos: We are committed to nurturing and strengthening our religious character, aligned with the Church of England, allowing the light of faith to shine brightly. East Hanningfield serves its community by offering an education of the highest quality, grounded in Christian belief and practice. We foster a deep understanding of faith, promoting Christian values through enriching experiences for all pupils, creating a community where every light is valued.
East Hanningfield is a vibrant community where pupils, families, and staff inspire, support, and uplift one another, allowing their collective light to illuminate the path forward. We believe a strong community is vital for holistic development, empowering children to reach new heights. By embracing participation, open communication, and collaboration, we cultivate an inclusive environment where everyone flourishes, equipped to face challenges and let their light shine together.
Articulate Children with Strong Literacy Skills: We believe strong literacy skills are the foundation for learning, allowing the light of knowledge to spread. Through innovative teaching and a rich literary environment, we nurture children to express themselves with eloquence and creativity, their lights shining through their words. We empower them to read, write, and communicate effectively, preparing them for secondary school and beyond, letting their voices be heard.
Resilient Learners and Inclusivity: Inspired by the message of Matthew 5:16, we encourage pupils to step beyond their comfort zones, take risks, and embrace the unknown, allowing their inner strength to shine. We understand resilience as the bridge between failure and success, and foster a safe, inclusive environment where children learn from both triumphs and setbacks, letting their resilience become a shining example. In our inclusive community, we teach compassion and empathy, respecting and supporting one another, allowing the light of understanding to prevail.
Readiness for the Future: We envision pupils as future leaders, innovators, and contributors, shining their light on the world. Our curriculum equips them with essential academic knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills for navigating a complex world. We prepare them to embrace technology, appreciate the arts, and engage globally. By fostering resilience and adaptability, we ensure they are ready for secondary school and empowered to thrive in an evolving future, letting their light guide the way.
Spirituality: We believe spirituality is integral to educating the whole child; the light within. Our definition encompasses an ongoing, reflective journey deepening understanding of ourselves and the world. Inspired by Matthew 5:16, we encourage pupils to explore profound questions, seek deeper meaning, and forge connections with themselves, others, and something greater, allowing the light of wisdom to guide them.
