Important class information for Robin class

Our team

Class teacher: Miss Cormick

HLTA: Mrs Wilkinson

LSA: Mrs Martin

Routine

The school gates will be opened at 8.40 and the school day starts at 8.50, please ensure the children are ready to come into class at this time as there are 'early morning jobs' that they will need to complete, these are fine motor task for early years, handwriting and maths for year 1. Our school day ends at  3.15.

Days to remember...

Swimming days for year one only in the autumn term are on a Monday afternoon (a full swimming costume (not a bikini) or swim shorts (with the swim shorts lining for hygiene), a swimming cap and a towel.

My PPA (planning, preparation and assessment) time is on a Tuesday morning so the class will be taught by Mrs Thomas.

PE lessons will be on a Wednesday afternoon (please bring PE kits in on the first few days of term, we will be changing into these for the PE session).  Please note that children will not be able to do PE lessons with earrings in.

Outdoor learning is on a Thursday afternoon and the children can come into school in some old home clothes (please dress appropriately for the weather- closed toe shoes, waterproof wellies etc). The clothes may get muddy so please choose old clothes. The first outdoor learning session will be on the 16th September. This will be every week throughout the year in all weather conditions. The children have access to the outside classroom everyday so if you would like to leave a named pair of wellies at school that's great.

Later in the term the children will begin cooking lessons on Friday mornings.

Homework

The year one children will receive homework every Friday and will either be an English or Maths task and weekly spellings. Homework is expected to be handed by the following Friday. You can either send it into school or take a photo and put it on dojo. The early years children will occaisionally bring home phonics homework, I will let you know when via dojo.

Reading

Reading is a huge focus, especially in reception and year 1. The year 1 children will be completing a phonics screening check later in the year which you will get more details about closer to the time. Children will be expected to read their school book regularly throughout the week, ideally four or five times a week. We then give out dojo points each week for every read. This will also contribute to our whole school reading rewards where the children can earn a bronze award for 50 reads , a silver award for 100 reads, a gold award for 200 reads and last year we have someone who earned a platinum award for 300 reads!  We count one read per day at home.  Children will also be able to earn extra Dojos by having a parents ask them a "VIPER" question and recording this in their reading diary.

Thank you - if there are any further questions, please feel free to Dojo me!
